Summary: Tetsu’s troubled by something and he refuses to tell anyone what it is.
Something seemed different with Tetsu lately.
I noticed it, Yuki noticed it, Ken noticed it… everyone noticed it! Our once bubbly leader has lost all his energy. It’s like he’s run out of banana fuel and he couldn’t find any of the said fruit to power him up again.
I think it all started a couple of weeks ago.
Tetsu didn’t seem like himself that day. He was more silent that usual and he wasn’t up to his crazy antics.
Everyone asked him what was bothering him. But every time, he would answer every question with the same answer. ‘There’s nothing wrong with me’.
He refused to tell anyone his ‘secret’. Not to Yuki, not to Ken, not even to me, his closest and best friend in the whole world who he always tells his secrets to!
I couldn’t believe it.
Not only did he hurt my feelings but he was straining our friendship as well. Sure, it wasn’t very ‘best friend-ly like’ of me to be impatient with this but god, I was more worried about him.
Days passed and Tetsu was literally loosing the color in his cheeks. He turned up for work everyday looking paler and paler.
And not only that, the songs he composed starting that faithful day started to change also. They became darker, unlike the ones he usually writes.
I tried talking to him once again, knowing that I’m the only one who can break through his barrier.
“Is there something bothering you lately?”
“No. Why do you ask, Doiha-chan?”
“Nothing… just… curious…”
I never really had the guts to demand the answer out of him. What if he gets angry at me for interfering with his personal life?
But when Tetsu started to miss meals and his already too thin body became even thinner, I decided enough was enough.
So what if Tetsu never speaks to me again. I must get to the bottom of this and try to convince our beloved leader that whatever it is he’s worrying about is not enough reason to slowly kill himself like this.
That night, I went over to his house so as not to cause a commotion in the studio. This was what you call ‘private talk’ anyway.
“Tet-chan… I know me and the others have already asked this question a thousand of times but…”
“And I’ve already told you guys a thousand of times, there’s nothing wrong with me.”
“But… look at yourself. How could you say nothing’s wrong with you when you’re looking worse with each passing day. I miss the old Tetsu. The one who livens everything up with his mere presence.”
“Doiha-chan… I…”
“The Tetsu who’s more active than ten thousand children combined!”
“It’s not really…”
“The Tetsu who would tell me everything and would never keep secrets from me!”
“All right. I’ll tell you.”
Whoa… did I just hear him say that?
“But… I’m not so sure. It’s really embara…”
“Is it because of a woman? Because if it is I swear Tetsu…”
“No. It’s not a woman, Doiha-chan.”
Oh… if it’s not a woman then… Oh dear Lord…”
“Tet-chan… is it a… are you…”
“I know what you’re thinking Doiha-chan! And no it’s not a man! I’m not gay either.”
Well, that’s a relief.
“I’m getting tired of these guessing games, Tet-chan. Can’t you just tell me straight out what it is?”
“As I’ve said… it’s quite embarrassing to disclose… You might laugh at me.”
“I won’t laugh at you.”
“And you’ll call me names.”
“I won’t call you names.”
“And you might spread the word to the others.”
“I won’t spread the words to the others.”
I know. I’m making more promises that I can handle. What if I break all of them? Nah, it can’t possibly be that bad that I’d break all of my promises.
“Well… you see…”
“Yes?”
“I was brushing my hair this one time…”
“And?”
What? Is it a sickness?
“I…”
“You?”
“I found…”
“…”
“A gray hair!”
“Oh…”
Will you please excuse me Tetsu while I break all my promises?
