Springtime is coming, though it isn't such an obvious change in Melbourne as it was in Yokohama, where it snowed for one full day! Going to work was a bitch for a week. Generally I know it's springtime in Melbourne when the cherry blossoms start showing.

I like this plan.

Hrm, I should drive up to Belgrave. That's always pretty when the cherry blossoms are out, but there's not real picnic area.

Are you talking about that garden that slopes down a hill with all kinds of decidious trees? that wouldn't be bad at all, except that belgrave is a bit of a hike. it'd need to be done on a day suitable for everyone with good carpooling.

btw, the dollies group are welcome. i know you're friends with a few of them. hanami would probably be right up their alley. will also be posting on the melbourne meetup thread on the madboards.

You mean this one? (Heh - it's still under construction in that satellite image.) Hrrm, well, I wasn't - I've never been to that little park. I do remember that the plans for it basically had all native plants, though. There are cherry blossoms of some type lining the road on the high side. I wasn't really suggesting Belgrave because while they make the town very pretty, and you can sit under them at one of the pubs, it's not the same as a picnic. One the other hand, there is that little park, and a range of other things that people could do, like see a movie, ride Puffing Billy or see what's on at Ruby's.

Carpool is possible, but there is a train station at Belgrave. End of the line, so it's hard to miss your stop.

The Dollfie people are beyond my powers to predict, but once you've got things settled I'm happy to poke them. Or maybe just post to dollie_cafe.

it turns out the place i was talking about was hamer's arbortorium (sp?) in olinda. havent been there in years though, so i'm not sure about whether they actually have cherry trees.

i think the royal botanic gardens might still be the best bet.
