Ever wonder how much a monk counters in xp PT? Or how many critical hits he has and for how much on average?
How much difference will atk food (meat) vs acc food (sushi) will have, or wearing osode vs ShuraTogi?
Someone (Taku, not sure what server) did this nice test, comparing 2 monks on basically 4 conditions: Sushi+Osode (monk1), Sushi+ShuraTogi (same monk1), Meat+Osode (monk2), Meat+ShuraTogi (same monk2). It was a nice test because it was done with really well equipped monks and for the effect of switching body armor, the same monks swapped gear, while everything else (including playstyle merits race etc) stayed the same.
MNK1(Ardebaron):
Galka MNK with capped merits.
Food: Hedgehog Pie
Macros in Flame Gorget, Power Sandles, Shura Haidate, Enky Bracelets for WS.
MNK2(Danorille):
Elvaan MNK with capped merits.
Food: Sole Sushi
Macros in Shura Haidate only for WS.
Each for 100 or so fights. The parser he used was FFrep (ghosts were excluded since you can't control too well when banish will kick in).
PT setup was the usual mnk x3, rdm, whm, brd in KRT, and bard songs were MinuetIV (atk song) and March (haste song).

The results he got from each run of around 200 fights are pretty interesting, because a lot of the differences are more washed out than some people might have believed (e.g., meat vs sushi: the strong advocacy for one or the other are OBVIOUSLY secretly paid to say that by the american beef association cartel **beef:it's what's for dinner!** and the japanese sushi cartel, respectively...).
Dune boots also helped dmg of one of the monks of course (vs fuma).
But they are also interesting as overall stats. Counter rate of 45% or so is pretty impressive, and you can get an idea of the average damage of asuran, hits etc, also not greatly affected by these differences.
On ShuraTogi vs Osode, as you would expect Osode boosts just about every stat, including counter rate (despite togi having 5 more acc), critical hit rate, and critical damage, but ShuraTogi increase normal damage per punch (as you would expect from the +15 atk), so give a bit higher average or total dmg.
Still if you look at the higher average per hit, but then multiply it by the total accuracy (as an indication, looking at totals is still better), you get:
togi+meat: 121.8*.885 = 107.793
osode+meat: 121.7*.896 = 109.0432
togi+sushi: 105.9*.958 = 101.4522
osode+sushi: 104.1*.945 = 98.3745
from this the best setup even for total dmg seems osode+meat, but I don't know if it includes criticals (although criticals percent and total dmg is higher from osode, but maybe it was counted in the averages already?), or ws (which is again highest for osode+meat, but I can't add this in the total without knowing total dmg from ws vs total dmg from hits, trying to get totals from Taku now =P)
So the moral of the story is, the sky will not fall whether you eat sushi or meat, despite what each respective interest group will want you to believe, tradeoffs are obvious and will change a bit how you arrange your gear, but not that huge for these pts. Same for osode and togi, osode is a bigger all-around boost to all your stats, great for soloing and tanking too for example, but if you are trying to get the highest total damage by maybe a percent point or two, and especially if you are not eating meat already, you can try ShuraTogi (osode had less of an impact on sushi, where togi helped compensate the lower atk of using sushi vs meat).
