My dad passed away on May 25, 2006, surrounded by my mom, my sister, my uncle Tom, and myself. Dad was always very adamant about not living life on a ventilator, so when that became our only option, we collectively knew it was time to let him go. Dad left us peacefully and on his own terms, his last MRI having shown no tumor progression. It was a ( Read more... )

I'm so sorry. My father died when he was 55, during my senior year of high school. My father's was a sudden death, and although I know it's little comfort right now, having that time to get things together and put everything in order is wonderful.

You have my deepest sympathies, Dave. I'm very sorry for the loss of your dad, who I know you, and many, many others, loved and respected deeply.

You've been very fortunate and blessed to have someone to call "Dad" who has been such an instrumental part of your life. Not to sound insensitive, but I've always been jealous of you for having that.

I hope you can find some comfort in, among other things, the fact that you're very far from alone in mourning.

Your dad sounds like a great, inspirational man. I'm very sorry that you and your family have to go through this great loss, but his memory will continue to live on with all of the people who loved him deeply.

Thanks, Liz. Actually, we are taking donations for the Omaha Community Playhouse, where Dad was very active and well-respected. It's hugely unfair that he'll never be able to do another show there again.

Anyway, so far we've raised over $900 for the Playhouse in my dad's name, and more money keeps coming in. Maybe they'll come up with a Radcliff Award or something. Henry Fonda's got an award there, and I always thought my dad was a more dynamic actor, anyway, hehe.

Someone had suggested that my parents do "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" at the Playhouse. It would've been awesome -- my mom plays a great drunk and my dad always liked the intense, strong, quiet parts.

My heart goes out to you David. I had no idea that he had passed on, but the thought of losing my dad is something I cannot even begin to comprehend. My prayers are with your family.
