Name your top six shows right now before reading the questions.
1. Seinfeld
2. Buffy, the Vampire Slayer
3. The X-Files
4. Arrested Development
5. Quantum Leap
6. The Office (U.K.)
1. Who is your favorite character from #2? (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer)
Wow, so many great ones. I like Faith because she is conflicted and sado-masochistic and obviously hot, but Eliza Dushku isn't the best actress. I'll go with Giles because he is bookish, befuddled and all-around awesome.
2. Who is your least favorite character from #4? (Arrested Development)
Lindsey doesn't add much humor to the show in most episodes. Or maybe she just gets drowned out by everybody else's greatness.
3. What would a crossover between #1 and #5 include? (Seinfeld, Quantum Leap)
That would be pretty strange. Maybe Sam could leap into Jerry and fix his life by revealing Elaine's deep-seated love for Jerry. That would be a little too sappy for either show. I don't think it would work.
4. Who is your favorite relationship from #6? (The Office)
That's almost too obvious. Tim and Dawn are a great pairing. In both the American and British shows, Tim/Jim reminds me so much of myself it hurts.
5. If you were to set one person from #3 and one person from #6 on a blind date, who would they be? (The X-Files, The Office)
Scully was always in need of some action, and was much too attractive to be alone for so long. Tim was too work-oriented and always put others before himself. It's a match made in heaven.
6. If you could meet one person from #4 and spend the day with him/her, who would it be, and what would you do? (Arrested Development)
I'd job-shadow G.O.B. at a spring break magic show for "Girls with Low Self-Esteem". In my $600 suit.
7. If you could change one thing about #2's plot line, what would you change? (Buffy)
"Buffy" actually has one of the most consistent runs of any show, so there wouldn't be much to fix. But the last season got kind of redundant, with a lot of big speeches, so I'd trim that crap. Also I would've kept Seth Green around. Willow's abrupt interest in lesbianism always felt like a bit of a gimmick to me.
8. Explain a relationship between two people (not necessarily romantic) from show #5, and why you like the relationship between them? (Quantum Leap)
The only consistent relationship in the show (the only two characters who are in every episode) is that of Sam and Al. It's the heartbeat of the whole show. They have a great friendship and make some big sacrifices for one another throughout the series' run. Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell are also great actors, especially as the show builds momentum.
9. If the lead title characters (first name in the credit sequence) from #1 and #3 were both drowning, and you could only save one, who would it be? (Seinfeld, The X-Files)
Let Jerry drown. I'd just want an excuse to give Scully a close encounter.
10. If you could change the title characters' order in the credits for #4? (Arrested Development)
Why would I bother? It is as it should be.
11. If you were able to add a new character, any kind of character you wanted, to the storyline for #6, what would the character be? (The Office)
I'd have Barack Obama play a new hire, so that David can compete with someone overqualified, charismatic, and of a different race, and would obviously make a huge fool of himself.
12. What happens in your favorite episode of show #2? (Buffy)
Too many to choose from. I love "Something Blue", where Willow's magic inadvertently screws with everyone's lives (Giles goes blind, Buffy and Spike get married, Xander is chased by zombies). I also really like "Hush", which is told almost entirely without dialogue, "Fool for Love", all about Spike's past. Way too many. It's the most consistently well-written show I've seen.
13. If you could kill off one of the characters in #1, who would it be and how would you do it? (Seinfeld)
Kenny Bania. With a gun. Make sure it's done right.
14. If you got the chance to visit the set for either show #3 or show #5, which would you choose? (The X-Files, Quantum Leap)
Since Sam is always jumping from time period to time period, "Quantum Leap" doesn't really have a consistent set. But I'm sure "The X-Files" office has some cool stuff in it.
