I drew a replication of the cover art from the first Suikoden game, which you may also know as the Ivanov painting. I've spent about two months working on it, one and a half of it was mostly it sitting there in an unfinished heap MOCKING ME. Buuuuut I really wanted the picture as a poster, and my boyfriend wouldn't stop bugging me to complete it, ( Read more... )

Thanks. ^^ Chalk pastels are really great for large scale drawings because the color spreads and blends so easily. I used to not like the way chalk felt on my fingers, but when I realized what these things could do I was completely hooked.

Thank you. ^^ It takes me awhile to create something halfway decent. Good thing chalk pastels spread so easily. It's almost like finger painting, except dry.

Damn girl, that's good. Now I know where your free time went. XD Chalk, now that takes talent. I'm love to buy a print of it if you ever got the chance to scan it and upload it to a printing site. *.*

Haha, thanks. I spent more of my free time playing FF8 than working on this, but it was always there for me when I got sick of drawing magic and looking for GFs (fuckin' Doomtrain).

I'll let you know if I ever get a chance to scan this then. :)

This is lovely! I agree that it does a great job of capturing the watercolor art style of the first game, which is quite different from the art style of the succeeding games.

I never even noticed that Kuromimi was in the original painting, so great attention to detail! :D

Thank you. :) Chalk pastels lend themselves well to giving a watercolor effect. It was even drawn on water color paper. :)

Simply beautiful! :D

Sometimes I wonder why Konami ditched this image for the NA release, and instead used that abomination... *shivers*

Thanks. ^^

They did shit like that a lot to older games because they assumed it would sell better if the images were less Japanese and more Americanized. Some of the cover art for the first few classic Mega Man games were ridiculously bad. XD
