Jun 03, 2010 21:01

Heee so I just got my Merlin book in the post for the season 2 eps 2.01 &2.02...I don't know if there going to make TO&FQ into a novel for older readers havn't found anything but this had some good A/G moments-plus illustrations :p no new moments of any though.

">excerts from 2.01:

Arthur's eyes opened and he stared in horror, unable to move-then strong hands grabbed hold of him and pulled him to safety just in time.

'Guinevere!' Arthur scrambled to his feet, hardly able to believe the identity of his rescuer. ' That thing could have killed you!'
'And it still might!' Gwen cried in alarm, as the gargoyle , furious at being deprived of it's victim swooped agian. She threw herself at the prince, knocking him to the ground. 'Sorry, sire' she gasped.

Under other circumstances, a commoner who knocked over the Crown Prince of Camelot might have found themselves quickly escorted to the cells. But not only had Gwen saved the prince's life twice in the last few seconds; now looking up at the girl above him, he was struck by her incredible beauty. 'No, my pleasure', he told her, and he definitely meant it.

Thoughts crowded into his head as Gwen scrambled to her feet-he'd known the girl for years, but for most of that time had thought of her just as Morgana's maidservant . Then, recently, some of the things she said, the way she's stood up to him, nursed him when he'd been near death-they'd made him see her in a differnt light. And now...

Arthur stood up,took Gwen's hand, and together they ran into the palace.

The adrenalin of battle was draining away. The pain was getting worse and worse.'Guinevere', Arthur called after her, but as she turned back he realized he didn't know why he'd called her, except that he didn't want her to leave his side.'Just you always surprise me'. And that was definetly true.

She looked confused.'Is that it sire?'
'That's it' he agreed. Gwen turned away again, heading back on her mission, but Arthur couldn't let her go. And he realized there was one very important thing he hadn't said-the sort of thing that princes didn't have to say to servants, but which he meant with all his heart:'Oh, and er,Thankyou'.

2.02:

Since her father had died,Gwen was used to having the house to herself, and the visitors who did call were hardly noblemen.Although she had known Arthur almost all her life, she could not be comfortable around him-their worlds to far apart.

Arthur was clearly feeling awkward too.-There was only one bed in her house, and she would have offered it to him out of politeness, but she was slightly taken aback that the prince automatically assumed it was his.-he must think she had a room elsewhere for herself.

'Goodnight, Guinevere', came the prince's voice from the other side of the curtain.'Goodnight, my lord', she replied, hardly able to believe that this strange situation was actually real.

Gwen knew she shouldn't question the prince, but she was starting to feel comfortable in his presence now, and curiosity got the better of her. (dialouge about why Arthur's jousting). Gwen was touched by the Prince's speech. Once apon a time she's thought him an arrogant bully, and although she'd since come to realize that he was a good and noble man, she knew that streak of arrogance was still there. She stared at the prince as though seeing him for the first time.He held her gaze...And then quickly broke it.(dialouge about him taking a bath :p) As she let herself into the dark night, Gwen reflected that maybe the prince hadn't changed much afterall.

Gwen quickly bundled up the blanket that was still lying on the ground, not wanting her guest to realize that he's deprived her of her bed.But Arthur was already though the curtain, and he was more observant than she gave him credit for.'Is this were you sleep? Where's your bed?'.
She couldn't think of a lie.'You're sleeping in it'.Arthur looked puzzled.'Why didn't you say anything?'
'How could I?' He really had no idea what it was like, being a servant.
'You're Prince Arthur, besides',she added, remembering how much his attitude had upset her and suddenly wanting to wound him just a little bit,'You didn't give me the chance. You just assumed the bed was yours'

Arthur's eyes widen in astonsihment.(dialouge)Gwen suddenly found she had to speak, and once she started she couldn't stop. (dialouge about how rude Arthur is) She imagined no one had ever spoke to the prince like that before in his life, and couldn't quite believe that she had done so.

But when she met Arthur's eyes again, she saw something there that surprised her.Was it embarrassment? Perhaps a little. But she also recognised sorrow and regret-he took her by the shoulders and led her out of the Kitchen.Gwen couldn't wipe the surprised smile of her face as she walked through the town (because of Arthur cooking her dinner :P). Perhaps having a prince as a house guest wasn't so bad afterall.

Arthur and Gwen were sitting at the table, empty plates in front of them. The atmosphere was no longer awkward. For this short time, he was no longer a Prince and she was no longer a servant;they were just two people enyoying each other's company.

There on the underside of the plate was a mark. The royal seal. Her happy feelings vanished abruptly.

'....That's what servants are for...' He trailed off. Gwen couldn't keep the hurt look off her face. She had been so ready to believe he had changed ,but even his kind acts were being exposed as false. And he clearly had no better opinion of servants than he'd ever had.'-I'm not ashamed to be a sevant',Gwen said. She no longer feared the consequences of telling the prince the truth.'At least i'm not a liar'.He didn't understand.

She went up to him impulsively and looked him in the eye (dialouge of what a good King should be)She's said enough. She turned away-but the prince caught her arm and pulled her back towards him.'Guinevere,I know I have much to learn. There are some things that I am terrible at, cooking being one of them-but also knowing what to say to someone I care about'.

Could he-could he possibly mean her? She stood her face tilted towards his, their eyes locked, and suddenly she had no doubt at all he meant her...Merlin arrived and the bond was broken.

Arthur turned to Gwen.'May I continue to stay here?'
'Of course...'She would have agreed in any case, but it touched her that the prince asked her permission rather than just assuming he would be welcome. Before her eyes, he was becoming a different person.

It was true that Gwen didn't hear Arthur's words to Merlin after he's examined the hard stone floor-but she was feeling so well disposed towards the prince that she would have probably laughed.

In fact, the next morning she realized she was going to miss him when he was gone. Now he was leaving for the tournamant ground and she didn't know what to say. There was something she wanted to do, but didn't know if she dared. In the end though, she had to do it.Nervously she held out her plain white neckerchief-he looked at her-not quite smiling, his expression tender. She smiled awkwardly but he didn't look away. And then-and then Arthur leaned towards her, and they were kissing, softly, gentley, passionately. For a moment they flew together. And then the kiss was over and they landed back on the ground...Gwen said nothing. She didn't know what to say.She didn't know what to do.She didn't even know what to think.

Something was badly wrong.Gwen, suddenly terrified, leaped from her seat and hurried down into the arena..Merlin looked back at Arthur-Gwen was with him, helping him off his horse. The prince could be in no better hands.

'...I have never withdrawn from a match. I do not intend to start now'
Oh,the stubborn, stubborn man! She'd just found him; was she to lose him again so soon? <333

'...I have everything to prove-to myself' And she knew it would always be so.Honour was everything to Arthur.

'...Perhaps this is a time for humility.' Gwen beamed with delight.

'..There's been enough bloodshed'. Gwen, watching from the edge of the council chamber, felt her heart swell with pride.

'..I learnt a great deal.' he caught Gwen's eye and smiled. She was still smiling later, when the court was dismissed and she found Arthur had waited for her outside the council chamber. But her happiness soon died.'Guinevere'- he was the only person who called her by her full name.
...She'd known it was just a dream. A prince and a servant? It could never be. But it had been a nice dream.'-Perhaps when you are King, things will be differnt'. Because she knew, without any doubt, that one day Arthur Pendragon would be the greatest King the land had ever known.
