Nostalgic II

London! Chaotic, overcrowded, expensive London. How I do love thee. But today's bit of nostalgia is away from the madding crowd, for a change.

It was just the most beautiful day when we went to the Kew Gardens. Blazing sun, gorgeous clear sky, but a top temperature of just 22 degrees or thereabouts. I wish everyday could be like this.

The immense glass-house at Kew Gardens. I love this, just how it's so totally Victorian. I kept expecting an Elizabeth Gaskell character to just step out, wearing a waistcoat and a gardening hat.

On the train out to Kew, we encountered a bunch of people going to Wimbledon for the tennis. It was all very exciting, seeing the ladies in their pristine white dresses and pretty hats. But I was rather disappointed that nobody had Andy Murray's name slathered across their face in zinc cream; and there was nary a funny hat in sight.
