THIS TUT BY
LOONI_MA! IT'S AMAZING!
Made in GIMP 2. Fairly simple and translatable.
Uses color balance and floodfill layers.
(GIMP doesn't even have selective coloring.)
Do NOT hotlink any of the images!
01) Open your image and crop it to your liking.
The pic I used is
here, and
here's the base I made.
02) Duplicate the base two (2) times.
Set the first layer to screen, 60%.
Set the second layer to soft light, 78%.
03) Make a new floodfill layer with #F2B013, and duplicate it.
Set the first layer to difference, 100%.
Set the second layer to screen, 100%.
(AKA: this is meant to sort of manipulate the exclusion setting)
04) Make a new floodfill layer with #F2B013.
Set it to burn, 8%.
05) Make a new floodfill layer with #072C3B, and duplicate it.
Set the first layer to difference, 50%.
Set the second layer to screen, 50%.
06) Open color balance, and use the settings:
shadows: 15, 10, -30
midtones: 25, 0, 20
highlights: -5, 0, 15
Drop the opacity of this layer to 50%.
07) Make a new floodfill layer with #DDFAF6.
Set it to burn, 35%.
(Here's where the GIMP users chant, "SCREW YOU, SELECTIVE COLORING!")
08) Open channel mixer, and use the settings:
red: 120, -15, -15
green: -10, 115, -10
blue: -10, -10, 140
09) Make a new floodfill layer with #FEF9EF.
Set it to burn, 100%.
10) Make a new floodfill layer with #E8F1FC.
Set it to burn, 40%.
11) Open curves, and use the settings:
value
first point x:43, y:22
second point x:64, y:64
third point x:191, y:191
You might want to lower the opacity of this layer.
12) Open brightness-contrast, and use the settings:
brightness: 10
contrast: -10
Drop this layer to 60%.
Here you add your textures!
I recommend some colorful ones with the lighten option.
And then some lighty textures with the screen option.
Then above the textures....
13) Copy your icon (I copied it before the textures) and set it to soft light, 50%.
14) Open channel mixer again and use the same settings.
Drop the opacity to 40%.
15) OPTIONAL, ADDITIONAL STEP
Take the base from the beginning and cut out the eyes, and duplicate this layer.
Set the first layer to normal, 25%.
Set the second layer to soft light, 50%.
I only did this to bring out Will's lovely eyes.
FIN!
NOTE: If you have exclusion and selective coloring, don't bother with this tut, haha! Use the one by
