Another icon tutorial!!
This time with Emmy Rossum.
From
to
.
Made with GIMP.
No "step-by-step" images provided, sorry.
No curves, but levels and hue-saturation.
Do NOT hotlink any of the images!
01) Open
image and crop.
02) Duplicate the base twice. Set the first to screen and the second to soft light. Merge layers.
03) Go to Layer, Colors, Hue-Saturation. Set the saturation to 20.
04) Go to Layer, Colors, Color-Balance.
On midtones, put blue at 50, green at 10, and red at 25.
On highlights, put red and blue each at 10.
On shadows, put red at 10.
05) Go to Filters, Enhance, Sharpen. Set to 20.
06) Find the teardrop button.
Select a hard circle from sizes 9 to 5. Choose sharpen, and go over Emmy's eyes and upper lip ONCE, with opacity 100.
Now select a soft circle size 9. Choose blur, and go over Emmy's skin with opacity 100.
07) Open a new layer and floodfill with (
??????) or a dark tan. Set to soft light, lower the opacity to 50.
08) Open another new layer and floodfill with #ffdebb or a light tan/pink. Set to multiply, opacity 50.
09) Now duplicate the base. Raise this layer ABOVE the color layers. Go to Layer, Colors, Desaturate. Erase the Emmy that isn't in the reflection (on the right).
10) Duplicate the b&w layer and set it to hard light, opacity 75. Merge.
11) Duplicate the b&w layer again. Find the teardrop button. Select the soft circle at 19. Choose blur, and go over b&w Emmy with the opacity of 25.
12) Looks too blurry? That's why we duplicated the layer! Now set that blurred layer to a lower opacity. I set mine to 70. (This makes Emmy stand out more than her reflection.)
13) Open some tiny text made by me [
pic] (you can make your own with fonts Georgia and Times New Roman at sizes of 1 and 2). Erase the parts over Emmy's face. Drop the opacity to 75.
14) Then I simply typed the word Emmy (using Hannibal Lecter font) in white, and added a drop-shadow (Script-Fu, Shadow, Drop-Shadow) with settings 1, 1 and 1 and opacity of 80.
And you're done! =)
Remember, don't copy this tutorial exactly. Experiment with opacities and such.
I'd love to see what you can make!
