I'm honestly not opposed to going to church. It doesn't bother me much. I never go simply because I'm not forced to. What get's me more are the Catholic church's politics, which are for the most part just shameful and disgusting.

There's that and then there's the right wing conservative Christians who believe that redemption or damnation is determined solely by going to church, swallowing the body of christ, etc. every Sunday. There are times when you think "Maybe God doesn't exist. And if he does, maybe he doesn't care about mankind." This is what those right wingers will never believe or even take into consideration. God is good, God is great and He will save all who are worthy of his forgiveness.

and now you see why I don't go. And I never give them money because sometimes I think that's all they're really after which is entirely large amounts of bullshit.

Don't you think it's kind of brash to say something like that? Maybe there are priests who abuse their power and dupe people into handing over hundreds of dollars for expensive new church shit, but there are also priests and parishes that have the best of intentions. I'm not trying to back up the church in this one, I'm just saying that's a bold statement to make. I guarantee that if you were dirt-fuckin'-poor, the first thing you'd do is go to a church or an Christian institution of sorts.

your right but im not talking about all priests and im not talking specificaly about the ones at my parish...but the fact that there are priests like that at all is unfortunate...but my point wasnt so much about corrupt priests as much as how church and the message of church is that u need to do more than have a relationship with god and a belief u NEED to go to church and u NEED to do what they say makes u a good catholic...thats the real tragedy

Personally, I think all of it is rubbish. G-d was created in our image, wasn't he? I don't mean to sound so.. athiest but It's true. G-d is a security blanket for us, and I think that those who use him to take advantage of people who need something to give them hope are particularly mental. G-d should never be used as a way to squeeze money out of people. And the thing is, I very much beleive in him, but if you tell a religious person that g-d was created in the image of man, they'll call it blasphomey. So you have to ask them, if g-d wasn't created in our image, how can we all possibly be so very expert at interpreting "his will".

So there. XD Ha.

We were created in teh image and likeness of God. If you want to be even more into it in a Chuck Palahniuk "Fight Club" way, our fathers are our image of God.
