Genma walked into the mission room again, asking Iruka as he always did if Raidou was back yet. Nine months, nine achingly long months, four months longer than it was supposed to take, and Raidou still wasn't back. There wasn't any news, good or bad. That was supposed to be good, but Genma couldn't help but despair. Yet despite the odds, he still kept his promise. Nine months, and he hadn't had sex once. He was getting tired of his right hand though.

Raidou. Hated. Snow. Hated. Haaated. Hate hate. Hated the way it fell early, sometimes, blocking passes. Hated taking the long way home. Oh well, at least Genma would be over him by now.

Genma sat despondently behind the mission desk, taking reports and giving missions. Next week he was supposed to go out on another mission. One week at the desk, one week in the field then back at the desk for a week. It was tedious, boring, and completely devoid of Raidou. Genma missed Raidou, even if he could just have his friend back. Genma Missed Raidou.

And Raidou had permanent sniffles. Smelled funny. Least he had a hell of a report to hand in.

Genma stamped another report and handed out a scroll. "Next."

Raidou spotted Kakashi at the post, said hi. All Kakashi would say was go hand in the report. Ah well. Guess Genma hadn't. Didn't matter. Still friends. So he stood in line, waited, and dropped his fifty plus page, muddied report on Genma’s desk.

Genma's eyes widened at the pile of papers. He looked up to see who'd just dropped them on him and froze. "Rai?" He breathed complete disbelief etched in his features.

Raidou leaned onto the desk. "Hey. Sorry I'm late."

Genma jumped over the desk in a split second, tackling Raidou to the floor in a giant bear hug. "You're alive. Gods, you're alive. You have no idea how boring life is without you around." Genma gripped his shoulders pushing him into the ground.

Raidou moaned. His head had hit tile. "Geeeenmmaa!"

"Raaaiiiidddoooouuuuu" Genma wailed right back, grinning.

"You hurt me!" Raidou protested.

Genma jumped off immediately, checking for serious injuries. "Sorry. I'm sorry."

"Ouch. Hi."

"Hi." Genma grinned glancing at the rest of the mission room (consisting of Iruka, Kotetsu, and Kurenai; all of which knew about his promise). He leaned forward conspiratorially, beckoning Raidou to come close.

Raidou leaned in, rubbing his head. "Yes."

"I kept my promise." He whispered, nearly silent, before sitting back with a giant grin.

"Uh. huh.." Raidou's eyebrow arched.

"I asked Kakashi not to tell you right away, because I wanted to tell you. I'm surprised he remembered if he didn't say anything. I asked him that over four months ago."

Raidou looked at Iruka.

Iruka shrugged. "I didn't watch him very closely, but as far as I'm aware. Kakashi never said anything to me about him breaking his promise."

Genma grinned. "See?"

"Okay. When do you get off work?"

Genma looked at the clock and wilted. He had another three hours left. "Three hours." He mumbled.

Kurenai snickered, walking over and laying a hand on Raidou's shoulder. "I can take an extra three hour shift right now. Not like I have anything better to do."

"No you can't." Raidou said, sharply." He was a damn mess! "I need to get checked over at the hospital, go home, clean my gear out, and get ready for dinner."

Genma pouted.

Kurenai smiled and nodded. "Alright I'll see you later then, Raidou, Genma." She nodded to both and left the room.

Raidou kissed his nose. "I'll pick you up at eight."

Genma purred, smiling. "Alright." He bounded up to his chair to wait impatiently, checking the clock every few seconds.

Iruka just laughed at them.

After the hospital, Raidou got a haircut, got reservations, got paid, got dressed, and at eight was back, wearing a new deep blue shirt, black jeans. Still bristling with weapons, but all concealed.

Genma practically ate him with his eyes, dashing around the desk to greet him.

Raidou handed him a flower.

Genma grinned, taking the flower and giving it a sniff before leaning over and kissing Raidou's cheek. " Missed you." He mumbled, only loud enough for Raidou to hear.

"Missed you too, moody." Raidou caught him in a hug.

Genma hugged him back tightly, like he had at the desk earlier. "Not moody."

"Cutie then." Raidou kissed his ear.

Raidou had gotten reservations at a swanky place, ordered oysters, baked leg of lamb, a bottle of old, dusty wine with a withered label, rich and red. The menu didn't have prices on it.

Genma was impressed; Raidou had really gone all out on this. He was glad he'd held off. It had been hard, pure torture at times, resisting sex from whatever stranger was hitting on him, but the thought of betraying Raidou made the choice easy. "This is good." he said, muffled around a bite of lamb and mashed potatoes.

Raidou smiled. "Had time to plan."

Genma nodded. "It's good." He repeated, amazed.

Raidou smiled over the candles (three!) and let his feet catch Genma's. "Not too much?"

"I wouldn't say so." Genma let his feet travel, teasing Raidou's enthusiastically. "I really missed you while you were gone."

Raidou leaned against the wall, watching Genma almost burble in place like a teakettle. "How long have you wanted this?"

Genma looked at his food thoughtfully. "I'm not sure... I've wanted to sleep with you almost since I met you, but anything more than sex... Couple years ago? Maybe more.... I don't remember..."

"Yeah, you wanna sleep with everyone." Raidou swirled his wine. "You're always cute."

Genma grinned. "You never said so before."

"You've heard it too many times." Raidou smiled. "I'll stick with moody."

Genma pouted. "I'm not moody." He whined, twitching his foot along Raidou's upper calf.

"You really are." Raidou said, with a sigh. "But it's cute. Eat your lamb."

Genma continued to pout, but ate his lamb all the same. He ran his foot up a little higher on Raidou's leg, petting the man's inner thigh with his toes.

"Mm, Genma be good." Raidou took a long sip. Warm and rich red.

"Hmm, you don't like bad boys?" Genma purred gazing at Raidou seductively, letting his foot continue it's caress.

Raidou stepped on his toes, held his foot still. "No. But I like you."

Genma grinned, wriggling to try to get his foot free. "I see your ankle healed nicely."

Raidou nodded. "Yeah." He kept Genma's foot pinned. "How do you want to do this, Genma? Dating? Are you any good at dating?"

"I've dated." He couldn't think of any occasions that would fit Raidou's definition of dating.

"Really? Who."

"Er... there was that girl... and the other guy... or..." Genma trailed off mumbling to himself. "Well, I'm a fast learner." Genma perked up with a false smile.

Raidou reached over, caught Genma's hand. "Alright."

Genma looked at his hand in Raidou's then up at Raidou with a sincere smile. "I'll learn." He said.

Raidou pulled his hand up, kissed the fingers. "Yeah, you're smart like that."

Genma swallowed turning his hand to cup Raidou's face. "Have to be." He mumbled not fully aware of what they were talking about any more. "And it helps to have a good teacher."

Raidou laughed. "I'm not a good teacher. S'not like I've got any more experience."

Genma blinked. "What do you mean?"

"I don't date much either." Raidou shrugged, still holding Genma's hand. He kissed the palm gently.

Genma rubbed his thumb along Raidou's lips thoughtfully. "You seem really good at it to me." He purred, highly distracted looking at Raidou.

Raidou shut his eyes, savored the touch, gave a half shrug.

Genma's fingers traced Raidou's scar to the side of his face detouring to trace the shell of the man's ear. He brought his hand down resting at the pulse in Raidou's neck. "Beautiful." He whispered barely audible to even his own ears, and he was too distracted to hear the word any way.

"You've got terrible taste." Raidou said, soberly.

Genma blinked back from staring at Raidou. "Hmm, you're beautiful." He said again louder, but only enough for Raidou to hear. "You really are."

"You're a foolish man." Raidou shut his eyes. "Like you, though."

"Like you too, Rai." Genma mumbled. He'd read a hell of a lot of Icha Icha while Raidou was gone, made him a bit of a closet romantic.

Raidou flushed a little. Maybe from the wine, but not likely. He finished eating quietly. "Do you want dessert?"

"Maybe a little." Genma purred, innuendo obvious in his tone.

"Pie, tart, creme brulee?"

"All of that?" Even Genma thought that was a bit much. He was still very distracted looking at Raidou. He hadn't seen the other man in nine months. It took a bit of catching up to get in all his longing gazing.

"What would you like, Genma?" Raidou couldn't quite look at Genma, when the man had that look in his eyes. That much open adoration made him uncomfortable.

"I don't care." Genma said, still gazing. "Just you." He whispered leaning on his hand. He was really getting to be quite sappy, but he couldn't bring himself to care. He was on a date with Raidou. Raidou the man he'd wanted in his bed for ages. The man he'd spent the last nine months of his life in torture for.

"Done eating then?"

"Done with the food." Genma teased, sitting up again.

"Ready to go home?" Raidou stood. He'd already given the restaurant enough to cover anything they could have possibly ordered, offered Genma his arm.

"Hmm. I think so." Genma purred, standing up. He was more than ready to go home. He'd been more than ready for a good twenty minutes. He'd been ready to go home when Raidou picked him up at the desk for the date in the first place. Genma took Raidou’s arm walking beside the man.

Raidou was quiet, but happy, walking Genma home, up the stairs, arm in arm. Then stopping at Genma's door. "This was a good night." arms sliding around Genma's waist

"It was." Genma purred wrapping both his arms around Raidou and going for the kiss. He leaned forward just brushing their lips together before tugging closer and latching on. He moaned, gods he wanted this so badly for so long, licking his tongue out, tasting Raidou's lips before pressing into his hot mouth, snaking his tongue around Raidou's and sucking.

Raidou kissed him back, pressed him to the wall near the door, firmly. Returned the kiss shyly, moaning.

Genma groaned, pulling Raidou close, tangling a hand in his hair and running one down to Raidou's ass, groping and rocking against the man.

Raidou moaned, hands sliding to hold Genma at the neck, at the jaw.

Genma rocked again, reaching out blindly for the door. They had to get inside now.

Raidou caught his hands, brought them up between them. "Hey. Pretty."

"Hmm." Genma whined pressing against Raidou, seeking warmth. "Inside?"

"Yeah, you'll get cold out here." Then he gave Genma a soft kiss on the check. "Next Friday, I'll pick you up at eight?"

"Wait what?" That didn't make sense. What about tonight? What about now?

"Oh, I don't put out on the first date." Raidou said, voice husky. He kissed Genma again, on the lips, but chastely.

"What no, wait." Genma squirmed, trying to grab Raidou. "You can't go. Not just like that."

"I'll see you Friday." He gave Genma a gentle, loving shove, caringly shut the door in his face, and slapped a seal on it with the utmost tenderness.

Genma tried to open the door again and growled as it refused him "Dammit Raidou, wait!" He shook the doorknob again. "You can't do this. Raidou." He whined.

"Friiiiiday." Raidou called.

"RAAIIIDDOOOUUU." Genma whined sinking to the floor in despair. He stayed like that for a minute before deciding he had to take care of his problem. It took a very long, very cold shower, but Genma was not going to spend himself on his hand when he was so close to having Raidou.
