A Letter To Loz

(Written on Tuesday and Wednesday, mailed Friday morning)

Dear Loz-

I recieved your letter just yesterday, and I don't have the words to tell you how much it meant to me to hear from you. I'm glad you and your brothers are doing well.

Things here are as interesting as they usually are. We had an unexpected blizzard this weekend. And there were apparently snow creatures brought by the storm, which attacked the town. Most of the townspeople were evacuated by our new town guard before the mosters arrived, because there was no electricity in town. I myself was stranded at the school, but luckily I was able to stay with Greg House at his apartment. You may have met him -- he's one of the doctors at the clinic. Really nice fellow -- well, not really a nice fellow, but an interesting one. He's teaching me to play the piano, and I'm teaching him to dance.

Ten and CJ were temporarily turned into teenagers, and you can imagine what that was like for everyone. I helped Ten dye his hair red, and it looks good. CJ is angry at me because I helped Ten lock her in the closet in Adam's classroom with Jack -- they were refusing to speak to each other and we finally decided to take drastic measures. They've worked things out, but apparently had to spend the entire night in the closet. I assumed Ten would let them out -- I'm not certain how he managed to miss the fact taht she didn't come home that night. Adam found them the next morning, so he was spared her wrath. I haven't spoken to Jack since, except for seeing him in class, so I don't know whether he's out for my blood as well or not.

Classes are going fairly well. Participation isn't what I'd like it to be, but I have two excellent TAs -- Isabel and Kiki -- and they're hard workers both. Kiki brings snacks for the poetry students every week, and Isabel has been doing a fine job of keeping me straight on which students are attending and turning in their assignments.

Our mayor left, at the same time you did, and the new military forces here make me a little nervouse -- I'm not a big fan of local authorities, as you can imagine. But they seem helpful, if distant, so I'll reserve judgement for now.

I've been trying to keep busy since you left -- mostly if I go out, though, it's to visit with Greg. I've been drinking a little too much, I think, but not in public so at least I'm not making an ass of myself. I got pissed the night after you left -- Greg let me stay with him, which is good because I think I would've gone out otherwise, and I'm not sure where I would've ended up. Had a hell of a hangover for class the next day -- maybe I've learned my lesson (but I doubt it).

Your poem was beautiful, Loz. I've been leaving off mentioning it because -- I get when I read it it makes me think of you I don't know what to say except that it's beautiful, and thank you.

Write me again, if you would, and tell me what you've been doing. I've enclosed the syllabus Yazoo asked for. Tell him I'm sorry we never got the chance to sit and talk books like we'd planned. Give him and Kadaj my best wishes.

And my best wishes and affection to you as well.

I miss you.

Yours-

Geoff
