I'm reposting this from bizzyness, because i think it's the most rational response that i've seen posted.

I honestly hope you read it. i'll post my own in a bit.

It amazes me that those who preach they want a leader who is tolerant, thoughtful and able to see and accept the differences in others is so quick to call those who do support Bush morons and ( Read more... )

I:
1.) voted.
2.) have volunteered with ACT, MoveOn.org, VoteMob, and the Kerry Campaign itself.
3.) will not stop doing so. (Well, since many of these organizations are disappearing, then I will, but you get the point.)
4.) send out letters to my senators and representative weekly about things I care about, through ACT, MoveOn.org, 21stCenturyDems, CodePink, the NRDC, and the HRC.
5.) have a right to bitch and complain, since I have put my money (time) where my mouth is.

It doesn't make them bad people, but in many cases I doubt the level of thought they put into their choice.

I'm also more afraid of the intelligent, well-thought, mostly socially liberal people who voted for Bush because of one of two issues, either gay marriage or abortion. (Kerry doesn't support the first personally or politically, and he feels that the government has no authority in the second, despite the fact that he is Catholic and against them personally.) Diehard paleo-Con Republicans, okay. "Kerry Kills Babies!" people? No.

The man's right... to an extent.

I respect the opinions of those who supported Bush because they support Bush, just as I respect those who supported Kerry because they support Kerry. I have heard defenses from both sides that I thought were at least minimally thought-about and decently put-together. Ain't no morons in the mix (at least, ain't no one being more moronic than usual; I have a problem with the whole human race and usually refer to most of it as morons). If you know what any candidate's policies are, agree with them, and vote for that person, more power to you. You're one of the people who makes the system work even in the face of Ken Blackwell and his dogs of war.

It's those who supported one because they didn't want the other one getting into office I have a problem with... and I have a big problem with that bunch.

True, but... bizzyness November 4 2004, 20:46:51 UTC
A Bush supporter would say that he was misinformed re: weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and did not intentionally lie and deceive (which, because I'm a sucker I SOMEWHAT believe - only because otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I was intentionally lied to, but once again, I'm a sucker). A Bush supporter would also say that issues in Iraq would eventually spill over and worsen the situation in Afghanistan. I happen to think that's absolute bullshit but the reason I point these things out is because a person who supports Bush does not see his actions in the same way someone who opposes Bush. They're not discounting your points in as much as they never really beleived they were true. See what I'm saying?

3. 1200 Americans are dead. Bush won't let you see there coffins.

You can put the blame for that a long, long way behind Bush. That law was enacted during the Vietnam war.

As I've said, this is about a lot more than W. Don't even try to tell me that I can't think less of someone who votes to permanently strip gay people of their rights, as we saw in 11 states. We lost a lot yesterday. I am upset with the direction that this country is heading in, and that the majority of people here clearly don't have even remotely the same values that I do. I have every right to be.

We're moving backward as a nation. This depresses me.

It also depresses me that my vote no longer counts in the 18-24 bracket. I'm old.
