It's a really quiet day here in Wisconsin.  So it's time for another installment of Eurovision Thursday.

I've decided to take a look at one of the "WTF" songs that ever graced the stage at Eurovision, Luxembourg's entry from 1980.   Watch at your own risk.

I swung by your blog after reading this, and the thing that really, REALLY struck me was the set design. Have you read anything about what current designers are "going" for? It is an international event, yet the designs are SO over-the-top a part of the current show, is there an international body that approves what the host is up to?

Eurovision is an amalgamated thing. The contest is supervised by the European Broadcast Union, an international organization that helps coordinate international broadcasts like sporting events. They also help countries implement new TV technologies. The Eurovision Song Contest was specifically created to show off the top of the line in technology ( ... )

So the fact that the more reacent sets have all seemed somewhat similar has more to do with a slavish devotion to the State of the Art than a unified design theory, kind of the way that every action movie post stedy-cam is required to have a chase scene that utilizes said stedy-cam?
