Kamek really should have paid attention to the signs.

It'd been over a week of complete normalcy for once, something Kamek didn't get to appreciate too often since coming here. The days came and went, classes were held, spats were exchanged, the typical. Except for a small nagging feeling that there was something to be looking out for, paranoia seeping whenever his mind wasn't distracted. As one capable of sensing future events without the precise guidance of his crystal ball, Kamek was trained to pay attention to these things. Unfortunately, this power was not always a reliable one.

Useless scraps of information, as one would call it, take up most of these premonitions. They happened most often around other people. Kamek couldn't be bothered to worry over all of them. This one occasion didn't keep him up at night (where the paranoia burned at it's strongest), nor did it become a mental obstacle in any way. It was kind of fleeting almost, as if it went into hiding whenever he looked for it. In the end, Kamek ignored the warnings, and all was well.

Until headaches appeared, which then turned into fevers. Kamek would will them away as he always would, and things would sometimes go back to normal. And they did. But a day went by, and the sickness returned with a fury, like it had been piling up during the temporary respite. This was not something the Magikoopa could fight off alone.

Begrudgingly, medication was taken, rests were had, yet it only became worse to the point he displayed virus-like symptoms. Kamek couldn't remember the last time he's gotten this sick before. It had to be something he picked up from being human. Disgusting. As such, he would wait it off. Cancel his class while he was at it. For once, he was absolutely in no state to do anything.

The final night was a nightmare unlike which he's never experienced. A sudden wave of severe illness him like a torpedo once he retired that day. Once again, the nagging feeling from before came back to taunt him with renewed vigor.

Shouldn't have ignored the signs, old man.

Just getting what you deserve.

Using all the strength he could muster. the wizard positioned himself upright to sit on the bed. Breath coming to him in desperate heave, nausea rolling his insides. This.....this was no human illness. Wasn't natural at all. It felt like he was dying, his organs falling apart, but none of that made any sense this couldn't possibly be happening now, could it?

It was an assault of some kind. Like getting hit with poison. Through the physical pain, Kamek forced his trembling legs to move. He had to get out. Get some help. There was some emergency elixir in the classroom, maybe if he could make it there in time.

Legs giving out, Kamek fell to the floor. The royal family, his men, Naval....old as he was, he was not ready to leave it all behind to some...curse. It couldn't end this way. Anger, concern, spite for this stupid, rotten school that was surely to blame somehow gripped his every emotion while he tried to fight back the physical wreck and annoying little voice clouding his thoughts with everything he had in him. Kamek made it out of the forest incident alive, surely he could get through this. He refused to let go and leave everything behind.

In the span of a breath it all subsided, like calm after a storm. The sleep wasn't a peaceful one, but Kamek would take all that he could get just to end this nightmare.

narration, spam, and then kamek was a dry bones
