I can't find any corroborating source for that claim that rice is bad, so I'm dubious. The closest I can find is that apparently british worms don't like composting starchy foods. But otherwise, zilch (plenty about rice hull composting in a farm setting).
The particular claim seems to be that the bacteria that grow in rice are somehow compost-hostile. Not sure how one would go about corroborating that sort of claim though. :/
There was a bit on Olbermann, last night, about cow urine helping make for healthy bees. Perhaps, if we, ummmm, all do are part, the bee populations will recover ;-)
Thanks for posting this!! This will be a great source whenever my husband and I disagree about What Belongs in the Compost Bin. (I'm not so sure I want him reading this particular item, though :)
