Emily

He had woken up again. Watched her tossing. Watched her turning. Heard her cry out in her sleep. The same name. Always the same. Olivia. Liv. Things changed all the time with her. But Olivia seemed to be a constant. Tonight Olivia was back. Like every other night.

As she had stopped whining, whispering, begging to Olivia he still couldn’t find sleep. So he sat up, resting his head against the head board, waiting for morning to come.

At 5 a.m. she woke up. He watched her open her eyes. Watched her stretching her arms and legs. Heard the yawn. The same routine.

She looked up at him. He looked tired. Usually he wasn’t awake before her. “Morning”, she said with a soft smile. “What do you do up so early?”

His eyes transfixed her as he spoke up. “Who’s Olivia?”

Alex’s blue eyes took on a darker shade. “What?”, she asked him.

“Olivia. You keep talking about her, to her… in your sleep. So who is she?”, he wanted to know.

She took a breather.

“Emily. Tell me.”, he said. “Please.”

After a while he received a nodd and as she found her voice she told him the truth - her truth, but he would never truly understand.

“There was a time when I wasn’t the person you know now. I wasn’t Emily. I wore different clothes, I had an other job, a different character. I led a different life. There was this woman I worked with. Olivia. We were a couple. Olivia was my girlfriend.”, she told him. “There were circumstances that tore us apart. I love her. I still love her and I always will.”, she whispered with tears in her eyes. “She was the first woman I ever was with. And she will be the last I’ve ever been with.”

“Where is she?”, he dared to ask.

“I don’t know. I had to leave her behind when I became the woman you are with today.”

As the conversation was over the blonde locked herself in the bathroom, turning on the water while she cried bitter tears. It was the truth within the lie called ‘her life’.
