Crazy Storm = Crazy Night

Wow. Where to begin. As I mentioned briefly in my last entry, there were tornado warnings for the Orangeville area. KJ was working in an apartment building, and when he was walking through the hallway, some guy was like, "A tornado's coming. It just touched down in Fergus." KJ was working in a "special needs" building and just figured the guy ( Read more... )

The thing is, we're not used to stuff like this. Especially tornado warnings! Who's ever heard of a tornado in Toronto? Know what I mean? I mean, when it takes four hours to get from Woodbridge to Mississauga, that's a BAD storm! So we're not wusses, we're just not used to it.

I think storms are cool minus the tornados (though I don't know if BC has ever had one?) and the incredible inconvenience they can be.

Sounds like a crazy night, but I'm glad KJ is okay. I was actually thinking about that last night, wondering what ended up happening.

I think BC may be a bit too rocky for tornados.

This is true. Now I'm curious.

Large tornadoes are rare in British Columbia, but in some years there have been several smaller ones sighted, and also the so-called "funnel clouds" that can generate a "twister" that touches the ground and causes severe damage. Very few places in British Columbia appear to be completely free from risk

We get tornado warnings down here every once in awhile... not as often as, say, the midwestern states, though. We do have to worry about hurricanes every year, though. Even though I'm about three hundred miles from the coast, hurricanes have been known to cause damage around here. Last year, in fact, one hurricane caused massive flooding in this area.

Yeah I wouldn't expect a lot of tornados where you are. At least, not very big ones. But I can imagine big hurricanes doing some damage where you are. The most we get from a hurricane is lots of rain. There was one hurricane though (Hurricane Hazel) that hit Mississauga/Toronto pretty bad (this was a long long time ago though) which people still talk about to this day.

Yeah. I drove from Burlington through to the Ontario border through those storms. It was AWFUL. I think we saw a tornado but I'm not sure. Ugh.

That's funny cuz there's a Burlington not too far from where I live. That would be so scary to actually see a tornado. Glad you made it through that storm okay.
