I thought I'd write an entry on our 'Hairy Ape' group performance, more of the behind the scene sequels in creating the live stage performance. The life of an actor is quite a challenging and tiresome life. I know for myself that its not the life for me but I more took the fun side of acting. Just getting into character and performing was an amazing experience especially working with great, exciting and creative people. I know at first I was stressing because our group was scheduled to perform on the first wednesday and we had nothing to work with just a few mental ideas and limited time. But fortunately we had Laura and Emma who had been working on the script on the Monday. Once the script was finalised thats when we all put out directors hats on and trialled ways to express the personas of our characters.

From acting out the hilarious drunk scene 1 and a snipet of scene 3 it made me realise what concepts of humanity and conflict individuals entail. I know that Christina, Laura and Anna Rose would agree with me that bellowing out the man inside of us was quite challenging. I know I was practising all night trying to act like a guy so that the audience when watching the performance know that I am a guy. The group work experience was just fulfilling as the guys Brenden and Luke encouraged us all to get into character by acting like idiots on stage (as we were suppose to be drunk). What really stood out for me during this play was the dialogue beween Yank played by Brendan and Paddy played by Luke, from listening to what they were saying caught my attention of the theme of being what makes us belong and what makes us human. The world is like a social network where we need to conform in order to be accepted, whereas if we refuse to conform well then were outcasted. Yank had an issue with expressing his individualism and he did not care about what others thought so he encouraged the other stoke workers not to care about the upper classed engineer workers. In some cases we do need to act like Yank and be rebellious.
