2012 Meme
1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before? Lived out of state, worked for a major corporation, went skydiving, went scuba-diving. Pretty good year for firsts.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't remember what my new years resolutions were. I should write some down for this year. Maybe I'll do that in my next post.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? My cousin's wife had another kid so I guess that counts.
4. Did anyone close to you die? We lost an orchestra member. I wasn't personally close to him but I do feel his loss.
5. What countries did you visit? Australia, Sweden, and I guess Iceland (if you count the airport XD).
6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012? More balance in my life. More exercise. More inspiration.
7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? I have a terrible memory for dates.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Starting to draw again. That's right up there. Also, gaining some mental stability.
9. What was your biggest failure? I don't really consider anything that happened a huge failure. But I was disappointed I didn't get the CSF job.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nope
11. What was the best thing you bought? Hm....I don't really remember what I bought...I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the best thing I bought was probably a meal.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? That's an odd question. I don't feel qualified to judge my own behavior most of the time, much less anybody else's.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Mine at times. But see above.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Going to Sydney, taking an art class, and Mass Effect :D
16. What song will always remind you of 2012? We Are Young by Fun; Some Nights by Fun; Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? Definitely happier
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? I always wish I'd exercised more, drawn more pictures. I definitely wish I'd written more. But there really wasn't time for any of that so I don't really feel bad about it.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Nothing really. I wish I'd done less schoolwork but then my grades would have probably suffered XD
20. How did you spend Christmas? Eating and being tourists with thirteen of my closest family members. XD Twas a dream.
21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with? Hm. Good question. Probably wolef or emago. I have irrational dislike of the phone.
22. Did you fall in love in 2012? I fall in and out of love easily with places, things, and thoughts. Anything else would be too much trouble.
23. How many one-night stands? I sat through one of my housemate's. That was a joy.
24. What was your favorite TV program? The Hour
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Hate is such a strong word. I'm pretty sure I don't hate anybody.
26. What was the best book you read? The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Electroswing. yessssss
28. What did you want and get? A real job, first season of The Hour on DVD, the Mass Effect artbook :D
29. What did you want and not get? The CSF job, straight A's, time with my sister
30. What was your favorite film of this year? I have a hard time remembering what came out this year as opposed to last year. I'm gonna say it was probably Skyfall. Or The Hobbit. I liked both a lot.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 22. I repeatedly forgot it was my birthday until my housemates reminded me.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If I hadn't had to pay rent on a Maryland apartment while I was living in Connecticut.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011? For like a quarter of the year "casually fashionable" at best, for the rest "given up on personal appearance"
34. What kept you sane? art, music, and sleep.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I want desperately to be friends with Charlize Theron.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Lately it's always women's rights. Puts me in a tizzy.
37. Who did you miss? I miss a lot of people sometimes. It comes in bouts.
38. Who was the best new person you met? As a kind of introverted shut-in, I don't really meet a lot of new people at this stage in my life. Though I did get to know my supervisor at the lab better. And she is super cool.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
Avoid absolute judgements where you can; things are always free to changes of circumstance and perspective.
Don't worry about the things you can't control. Corollary: don't dwell on the past.
