Mm. I didn't have this to the same extent, but I remember when I understood every line of autoexec.bat and config.sys and basically everything that happened during PC startup once my PC got past the BIOS. And I remember realising within a few years of when that ceased to be the case.
The web is one of my areas, and it still annoys me when websites render things using tags, just because I like to be able to pop open the devtools and inspect the HTML and CSS to be able to (at least theoretically) work out every pixel of a webpage's layout. removes that, hides it all inside scripted generated content. (And earlier it used to be possible to View Source to see where everything came from, but dynamic content loading / generation and Javascript libraries with recursive inclusion removed that a decade or two ago.)
