I'll second Iceland. Greg and I have been researching it to go visit for a week sometime in the next couple of months.
It's only 4.5 hours flight out of BWI, and you can get tour packages that include roundtrip airtravel and some food (that's the most expensive thing in Iceland) for one person, prolly in the 1200-2000$ range. But it's worth the cash, b/c really, that's about how much one would spend going anywhere....
Check out IcelandAir.com You might be able to get some last minute deals. There are also sites that have people looking for buddies to travel with them (and bring down the cost). Also, Iceland is really pimping their "Weekend Getaways" and "Midweek Madness" tour packages, which will be cheaper.
I’ve heard good things about Iceland. A buddy of mine has been stationed there few years. Supposedly there are more bars per square mile then anywhere on earth and they have lots of hot springs.
If you do the New England thing, I can put you up.
Vacations are expensive no matter what you do, so pick something you like! I'm opting for camping in Cape Cod again this year, because its cost effective and I didn't spend nearly enough time shopping in Provincetown last year! So . . . if you do New England, I also recommend Cape Cod.
