CHARACTER:
Name: Kurt Wagner AKA Nightcrawler
Source: X-Men: Evolution
History: As an infant Kurt was subject to Magneto’s genetic experimentation-Magneto’s attempts at evolving Homo Superior to full mutant ability. Kurt’s mother, Mystique, stole him away from Magneto’s lab, but lost hold of him on a bridge above a river. She found him, adopted by two normal humans, and left him in his loving home. Kurt was raised by his adoptive parents in Germany, kept separate from other people due to his appearance. When he grew older, his parents were contacted by Professor X, and he was sent to Xavier’s institute.
Initially shy around people due to his appearance, Kurt blossomed pretty quickly into a quirky, fun loving young man. With the help of an image alteration device given to him by Professor X, Kurt was able to attend high school as a normal teenager, make normal teenage friends, and do normal teenage things, like go to parties, and take exams, and eat gutbomb burgers for breakfast.
What he didn’t know was that his principle, Mrs. Darkholm, was Magneto’s minion, and his own mother. Nor did he know that Rogue, at first one of Mystique’s Brotherhood, was his foster sister. It was only after Rogue joined the X-Men and began having dreams about Kurt’s past, that he became aware that Mystique might be his mother-a fact which troubled him, a bit, but he resolved not to worry overly much about.
Kurt’s relations with his fellow X-Men have, for the most part, been easy going. He has a bit of a crush on Kitty Pryde, and sometimes makes a fool of himself trying to show off for her. He is good friends with Scott Summers, and more or less on good terms with all the team.
In the first season Kurt settles in to school life, going from the extreme of a goofy guy, to learning how to be a bit more serious, while still light-hearted. He’s basically just a good guy at heart, though he will back up and save his teammates when the situation is dire, he prefers to have fun and hang loose. His cheerful, adventurous attitude is often a foil to Scott’s serious boy scout antics, and the two balance each other a bit as friends. When he learns about Mystique being his mother, he becomes closer to Rogue, and early in the second season he learns another lesson in responsibility and friendship, when Boom Boom leaves the team after he has some misadventures with her.
Taken after Episode 17: Fun and Games.
Personality: Kurt is a happy-go-lucky, fun loving blue fuzzball. He is insecure as heck about his looks, but with his re-imaging device he’s been allowed to go out and make friends, and in a desire to be liked and to make people at ease, his naturally playful nature has made him something of a goofball. He can be serious when he needs to, but he would rather have a party, or go on an adventure, or laugh with a pretty girl.
His friendly nature isn’t a façade though. He does want to be liked and fit in, but more than that he’s a good person at heart, and a sweet friend. He likes to see the people he cares for laugh, and he likes to keep their spirits up. He’s the one that’s msot likely to suggest a road trip to the beach, or holding a party.
He’s not a cool guy, either. His emotions are pretty much worn on his sleeve for all to see. Despite this he does have deeper issues he deals with, but he doesn’t burden others with them, and is fairly good about accepting most aspects of his life with a surprising amount of grace and equanimity. Even finding out that his mother is the enemy, though leaving him conflicted, didn’t alter his general, optimistic approach on life.
Biggest Fear: Being hated for his looks. He is afraid of being cast out because of his appearance, and judged demonic just because he happens to be the blue fuzzy guy with a tail.
Powers: Aside from having prehensile toes, a tail, pointy ears and blue fur all over his body, Kurt can teleport at will, short to medium distances. He doesn’t need to see where he is going, and he can carry up to three people with him, though usually he only takes one, as any more than that is exhausting. He can also hang upside down and eat popcorn with his feet.

Third Person: Kurt woke up in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room. This wasn’t the Institute, he could tell right away. For one, his room was a lot less eerie looking. Rolling out of bed, he hardly noticed as a roll of red tape dropped off the side of the bed when he flung the covers away.
Out of habit, before he was even awake, Kurt groped at the bedside table, slipping the watch-shaped re-imaging device on over his wrist and pressing the button that let the holographic image that disguised what he looked like take over.
Rubbing his eyes with the heels of his hands, Kurt padded around the room once, poking at things and waking up more and more as everything spoke to him of new, and odd. This was too weird. Kind of spooky. This place was giving him the wiggins. There was a desk with a computer on it, and he grinned, slipping into the chair and turning the computer on.
“Nice.” He murmured to himself. “Should get me one of these back home.” After messing with the network settings for a minute he looked over his shoulder. He was sure someone was watching him, but there was no one there…
“Oh come on guys.” He turned in his chair, looking around the empty room. “Enough with the prank. Ha ha, very funny. How did you move everyzing around like this, anyvay?” He waited and when there was no response he rose to his feet, balancing a moment on the back of the chair, than hopping down.
“Come on guys. Enough already…. Guys?” The weird feeling was getting worse, and he could feel his hackles rising.
“Guys.” Kurt wavered, backing towards the bed and looking around. The walls were starting to rattle, a little. “If that is you, Lance, you are so in for it.” He tried to growl, but it came out uncertain and high pitched. “I mean it! This isn’t funny anymore!” He slipped and stumbled on a roll of red tape as a horrible creature manifested in front of him. With a shriek, Kurt covered his face with his arms, cowering, expecting any moment to feel claws on him-or hear Rogue laughing at him.
Neither happened.
When he peeked through his fingers, the creature was still there, on the other side of the roll of tape, and Kurt suddenly realized this wasn’t a dream, or a prank. Shakily, he picked up the tape and held it to his chest.
“Ohh.” His voice shook but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the thing. “I don’t think ve are in Kansas any more.”
First Person: [The recording clicks on an a nervous voice coughs once, then wavers sort of uncertainly in a thick German accent.]
Umm… Ah, is this on? Yes. Okay. This is obviously not the institute anymore, ja? Er.
Unless this is a prank. In which case, ha ha very funny guys, right? I’m going to be late for school. So really, the creepy thing is unnecessary, we’re nowhere close to Halloween…
[There’s a long pause.]
Ja, dudes, a ghost? How cheesy can you get, I can totally tell that’s you with makeup on Kitty. Kitty? I am not… Hey. Hey guys this isn’t funny anymore, I’m serious!
[There’s a shriek, kind of a little girlish scream, and loud thumping like some things being thrown, and nothing.]
Notes: Is it alright for him to have his re-imaging device when he wakes up?
