Ambulatory Care

My first week at Florida Hospital East is over, and it went very well. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Coumadin clinic, so we counsel patients about their medication and check their INR, and see if it falls in the normal range, or if their dose needs to be adjusted. I definitely approve of the ability to have a life after work considering the amount of time I plan on spending in Florida for the next 8 weeks!

Actually, our preceptor pretty much lets us run the clinic ourselves. We do all the initial workup and testing, and then after we come up with our plan, we let our preceptor know and she comes in to visit with her patient and discuss everything. Then we write up the chart on the computer and she proofs it before finally submitting it. She does spend a lot of time with the patients, but with us there she doesn't spend as much as she otherwise would.
