You need to see this video for my comments to make sense: http://www.wegoted.com/blog/

Actually I think he was quite right on in his comments. I personally would have said the exact same thing about Elvis, McMahon, Hendrix, Cobain, etc. Yes its tragic that they died but you know what? Thousands if not millions (truthfully I don't know the exact average) of people die every day. What makes Jackson, et. al. any more different than those people? What gives them the right to take over our televisions when some people cannot even afford to have a proper funeral? What makes their grief any more important than our own? Do you want to tell the families of those military personnel that their son/daughter was less important than Michael Jackson?

The facts should have been presented and done with. Did we really need all of these pundits crying about him on TV for the past 5 days? I did not even see this many people upset when Reagan died! So Michael was the "King of Pop," I won't dispute that. Yes he helped to bridge racial gaps in the entertainment industry and has a legacy that will last for decades. But so do hundreds of other people that die every day. Why, when there is so much more going on in the world today, are we subjected to all of this repeated drivel? After the first day, with a markedly few exceptions, there has been almost no knew information about him, his death, or anything else. Its all on repeat!

And you ask "why don't we just turn off the TV?" Its because its the ONLY source of news around that can be easily accessed for the majority of people. True, there is the internet but unless you are very good its hard to separate the wheat from the chaff of information online. And do not even get me started on what has happened to most newspapers these days, they're as bad as many of the prime-time news networks. MSNBC is the only station so far that seems to have kept at least the politics they talk so much about as a part of their coverage this week.

So I ask you again, when we cannot turn it off for the sake of having no news, why does the coverage of the Jackson funeral rate so much higher than real news?

P.S. I have the deepest sympathy for Michael Jackson's family (especially his kids!!) and friends who are going through this time but at least he is finally at peace and not conflicted like he was. Don't mistake me for a cold-hearted, evil bastard; just one who feels this should have all been done privately and not been in the news.

tv, news, michael jackson
