(Gold, longlisted.) Grand guignol police procedural which reminded me a lot of ITV1’s Whitechapel (spectacular acts of violence in rundown urban settings.) This is one of the least plausible race-against-time thrillers that I’ve read : nevertheless, Mark Roberts’ James Patterson style micro chapters did hold my attention until the fiery finale. Not really my cup of tea, and another book awarded a place on the longlist which I would have given to The Strangler Vine or Rustication.
