Disordered Daggers : Lamentation by C J Sansom (2014)

Another gripping and immersive Tudor mystery from C J Sansom, one that I enjoyed more than his last book, the counterfactual Dominion. The author yet again combines deep historical research with a solid plot and a lovely facility for setting the scene. I was taken with his recreation of the lost palaces of London - Whitehall Palace and the Holbein Gate, Baynard's Castle - as well as the fascinating detail of the early printing houses around St Pauls. There's also intrigue, swordfights, spies, betrayal, and a convincing portrait of Catherine Parr, a devout woman aware that her position at court could change at any moment. Long,  but well worth the reading hours.
