The only title from any of the longlists that I’d read prior to their announcement, “Make Me” struck me as a solid rather than a spectacular entry in the Reacher series. Lee Child revisits some of his favourite scenarios in this one - Reacher in the middle of nowhere, coming across a town with a secret, teaming up with an attractive (female) representative of law and order - and the results are about the same as usual ; a competent page-turner told with wry humour and with a puzzle for the readers to solve before Reacher does. The ending is more Grand Guignol than usual ; if there is a film of this one then I expect Eli Roth will be directing it.
