I have a friend of mine who is frighteningly proficient in a number of sword forms.

I introduced him to foam-sword LARPing.

He complained that his usual techniques were worthless, given his inability to do head strikes, certain types of sword locks, and so forth.

When he adapted his style, he was ruthless.

Yeah, it's always a bit amusing to see people who know how to use real staves come in and take staff as their weapon in a boffer larp. And then they find out that you pretty much cannot do anything that makes staff fighting staff fighting...
