Whenever Asher gets fed up with faculty politics, he goes back to Sir Gerard's place. There's still politics there, but the people who want to throttle one another actually do so! He finds it rather refreshing after all the underhanded stuff.
Commenters noted that after ten years Asher's probably been knighted - actually, no. He doesn't have any land of his own, and he might be on the other side of the galaxy when the local lord calls his men out to battle. So while I'm sure Sir Gerard discussed it with him, in the end they decided it was best not to.
