Alexandria, FUCK YEAH

In the second opening sequence, Vivi walks past the statue of a soldier:

Well, as it turns out you can backtrack to that area once you get control of Vivi:

And examine said statue:

Turns out Alexandria has quite the history of badass warrior ladies! No wonder Beatrix feels pressure to be the goddamn best ever: Madelene was winning battles against impossible odds when she was 13. Here's a production render of General Madelene's statue I managed to find:

I'm digging the "plate armor and sandals" look.

Now if you putter up to the main square, you'll find another set of statues:

They're for another set of war heroes:

Lindblum and Alexandria go to war a lot, it looks like. Anyway! The Knights of Pluto are Steiner's all-male unit, right? Take another look at the statues. A tall skinny one, a fat one, and a child? HM. Where have I seen that before?

The Magus Sisters from Final Fantasy IV. They also pop up again in X:

Jesus why the bug costumes.

The point I'm driving at here is that Alexandria's entire military history is dominated by female heroes.

Clearly Alexandria is rad and you can be super rad by apping Dagger. Since she's the queen and all that.
