Though Mary Jane had managed an outward semblance of calm throughout her audition, it was gone as soon as she'd left the stage and was out of Jamie's sight. As auditions went, she was pretty sure that it had actually gone fairly well, being aware, on some level, of her talent, a necessary quality for any actor who wanted to be successful. I couldn't catch all of her audition, Madrox having asked people to stand back when it wasn't their turn, but from what I saw of her, she looked so natural up on that stage, like she was returning home, in a way. Though I always went to see her perform in the Willows Room, I can't help but think she's more comfortable acting, slipping into someone else's shoes, not unlike I used to do with Spider-Man -- still, there's no envy in watching her do what she loves from the sidelines, only a certain measure of pride. Maybe it's just an audition, but it's the stepping stone to something bigger, something greater, and there's not a doubt in my mind she'll get a part -- the part, even.

"Sorry, but the role of crazy person has already been cast," I tease with a crooked smile, closing the distance between us to sweep her up into a hug, mindful, as ever, of my ribs. Burying my face in her hair, I press a kiss to the top of her head, then pull back enough to add, "You did great, Mary Jane."

"And you are so biased," Mary Jane replied without missing a beat, a response she had practically prepared. Even so, she couldn't help smiling, arms winding around him in turn. Whatever happened, she thought, at least there was this. In the event that she didn't get cast, it probably wouldn't do much to soften the blow, but at least it was something, and exactly what she needed just then. "But thanks. You - you really think so? Really?"

"Well, I mean, I couldn't hear, obviously, but you've been running through that thing so many times I'm pretty sure that I know the words by now, so I just sort of filled in the blanks," I admit, though my smile doesn't waver in spite of the confession. That I have every confidence in her goes without saying. "You looked great, at any rate -- confident, like you owned the place."

"So that's one thing I managed to pull off, at least," Mary Jane said wryly, rolling her eyes, though his smile was infectious, keeping hers still in place. He'd had that effect on her before, but now, it was more noteworthy, as much of a relief as being finished with the audition. "Since I was closer to terrified. God, he asked me to do something from the last show I did back home, and I swear, my heart almost stopped right there. I'm surprised I even managed to remember anything."
