Postpeople...

Question:

Do you think people delivering post (particularly DVDs, CDs, etc.) open them to see what's inside, or is the packaging for such purchases so flimsy that it rips of its own accord?

Was it an international delivery, or a domestic one? Internationally, customs will frequently open stuff up.

Domestically, they have no reason to, but I've had a number of Royal Mail packages and documents clearly snooped through and then brazenly stuck in a "sorry this was damaged in transit" baggie. There are a lot of things I miss about the UK, but the postal service sure ain't one of them.

Well Jersey (home of the no VAT!!!), don't know what that counts as. They are obviously having a good nosey as the openings are not tears, they are very carefully opened, almost incisions. Grrr

we frequently have stuff "missing" in post, i actually started using my office address (so they assume its promotional dvds and professional-read boring-items)

Yeah I normally only use my office address for packages as the postie generally comes so late I'm normally at work and so am not here to answer the door, but as I'm working from home at the moment. Just pissed off that they obviously have a damned good nosie. Glad Dee and my stuff is pretty high on the geek, so our postie doesn't appear that interested.

I'd say a little of column A, a little of column B. I've never had anything stolen out of parcels (just entire parcels not turning up), but I've had more than a few turn up with a few strategic rips in the paper allowing what's inside to be seen. Then again, some packaging is really poor...I've had people ship DVDs in regular letter envelopes before :S.

Stuff's definitely a lot more vulnerable to being stolen/interfered with at this time of year, cos they take on loads of temporary staff and don't tend to vet them properly before letting them loose on our Christmas shopping.

I think it's people having a look and deciding they don't want it.
Unlike my box of 40 breast milk collection bags which was obviously so exciting they nicked it!
