I go an give up comics for Lent (ALL forms of comics: Manga, Doujinshi, American Comics, Comic Strips, the Funnies...) and I find out indirectly that one of my favorite LJ Communities was suspended! T_T What a tragedy... The timing for me seems almost ironic. On some level I can understand why, because lately people have been posting particularly ( Read more... )

Yeah, it sucks. I actually learned last night after trying to visit it and getting the message that the account had been suspended. I guess LJ feels it was a violation of their terms or service or whatever. It irritates me a it but they technically have legal grounds since when the account was formed the ToS were agreed to.

Also, kinky crap has been posted on that site at one time or another for the past 6 years.

The technical reason for the suspension is the posting copyrighted material without permission of the copyright holder. However, the potential inciting incident for it a a lot more complicated, if slightly pissy.

Basically, someone made a post about the latest issue of X-Factor calling the author (Peter David AKA PAD) out on bad characterization. One way or another, PAD noticed this post and got in an argument with them, and eventually reported the site to Marvel comics. Now PAD claims he is not responsible for the site being shut down, saying the the wheel to do so were already in motion, but I remain a little skeptical given Marvel mowed down a ton of torrent carrying their comics a while back but only now acts against scans_dailyHere are a couple posts that further elaborate on the issue ( ... )

Ahh. I had also figured that the posting of copyrighted material had something to do with it. I'm not really as outraged as I possibly sound and was just surprised that it was essentially hammered at this point. Especially since I've some writers or people claiming to be writers on it. Such as Warren Ellis

Yeah, should have figured it myself. (sigh) Because no one can resist putting a whole damn comic up. Samples and discussion would have been fine, but I can see where they're getting at.
