Sorry to bug you in your own journal, but I've been up all night going over all my old textbooks and study guides on the origins of English just to make sure I'm not totally insane and that everything I've spent the last ten years studying hasn't been totally wrong. Now that I'm assured it isn't, I thought I'd comment over here ( ... )

Sorry, I should have actually said that it is a Germanic group language with Latinate roots, for the sake of specificity. It seems, however, that in general your knowledge of linguistics far outstrips mine (which shouldn't come as anybody's surprise, since I'm not a linguist -- just a student of literature).

Heh... fair enough. I'm actually a former lit student too... but my passion was always linguistics, ever since I was like ten years old. Something of an obsession, one could say. Probably unhealthy, but there ya go. All I know is, I stayed up literally all night looking up more essays about ebonics, and now I have to go work at the day job for nine hours. :P

Meh, my own damn fault. :)

Considering my fascination with the metastructure of things like programming languages etc., I probably should be more into linguistics than I am. As it is, I just sit back and try to keep up when the hardcore linguists go at it.

I do appreciate your effort, BTW, and will certainly read through the links you've provided once my day's work is done. Thanks very much! That was kind of wicked, in an unusual way. :)

Hope your work day isn't going to be too hard on you...
