Excellent parallel and excellent commentary. It baffles me that Chair shippers think Chair is soooo different from Nair. In both, it was BLAIR sacrificing herself to some guy who'd place her second.
True, Chair wasn't supposed to be Nair 2.0, but it is. And it's far worse. Nate just slept with Serena--and both S and N were regretful for hurting Blair. Chuck has slept with prostitute, courtesan, random woman off the street, and his STEP-SISTER (& Jenny took for more responsibility for it than Chuck ever did) but somehow because Chuck "loves" Blair, the sleeping around doesn't count. (Nate loved Blair too! He obviously was pained at breaking up with her but didn't want her to become a pawn to her father, and he also knew that they had grown apart. But he still loved her, despite all!)
Anyway, good parallel. I'm still waiting for a Chuck holding down Jenny against glass window/Chuck holding down Blair against glass window parallel.
so much word! yes, Chair wasn't supposed to be the second version of Nair but it is, and worse cause Nate WOULD NEVER hurt Blair or any women. & i don't see how Nate sleeping with Serena makes NB worse cause ... it's not like Chuck would refuse to sleep with her if she wanted. Like you say at least NS felt guilt about it, for Chuck it's always him him him
Also the way NB was done was beautiful, so many girls could relate to it and it was so real. CB are just a mess cause the writers don't mean to portray a destructive relationship, but it is.
It's true that even though, things didn't last very long between Blair and Nate; at least, the relationship between them wasn't as complicated as the one Blair got into when she entered one with Chuck.
Seeing as how, it's true Nate never intended to hurt Blair, in any way; despite the fact that he slept with Serena. Yet, Nate felt guilty for what he had done and so did Serena.
Whereas, Blair's relationship with Chuck ended up going in flames more than once. After all, if it wasn't for the fact that when things got bad--Chuck would cheat on Blair with random women (plus, Jenny, Eva, and Raina); plus, there was the incident with trading her for the stupid hotel.
Therefore, Chuck has done more damage to Blair than Nate ever did.
And as crazy and complex the relationship between Blair and Chuck is--I still think that they're meant to be, no matter what happens. Because, in truth they'll never be perfect and in some twisted way they do care about each other.
Great parallel. That's why I'm never comfortable with people on tv telling each other they'll ALWAYS love each other, NO MATTER WHAT. It crosses in unhealthy territory easily. Plus, when they are high school students, it just seems really childish.
I think one of the many reason why Chuck treated Blair like shit, was that he took her for granted. She told him again, and again, that she would never leave him/ give up on him, so of course that selfish asshole took advantage of that. I hope Blair figures out that you can love someone (really love them) but that this doesn't mean you'll always feel that way about them, and that that is okay too. And IA, it probably has a lot to do with Harold leaving her.

I used to hope the show was subverting these sorts of "romantic" statements. Blair told Chuck she would STAND BY HIM THROUGH ANYTHING, and then he threw those words back into her face after the IP. But she just went back to him in the finale.
He did an even worse thing to her in S4, and she just went back to him in the finale.
"Sometimes I think Chuck/Blair really is just S1 Nate/Blair on crack. Although probably I should not insult poor Nate like that" They are, they are, but NB were classy, well written, beautiful, relatable, etc. CB aren't. And the show sells them as ~epic love, it's sad cause some girls believe it, they think it's romantic (to have your ~soulmate~ embarrasing you, treating you wrong, cheating, etc, etc.
