Um, started with one random day when LJ deleted a bunch of journals with key words in their interests, like rape, incest or other key pervy terms and what not. People got in an tiff because it goes against free speech, there was no official warning, and some of the deleted accounts weren't even of the sick kind that they were expecting to kill, like survivor of rape or incest groups. Bunch of pple still on LJ downgraded their accounts in protest, they got flooded with emails, etc. LJ eventually apologized and restored some of the accts they'd killed but not all. And the CEO said that interests are for interests so doesn't agree that people like survivors of rape should have it as their interest. *rolls eyes* Anyway, this was apparently called strikethrough 2007 because deleted accounts have strikethroughs

Same for most of us. And I don't follow the news either so I depend on what others say. Was only aware of this because it happened while I was in Europe and I asked, huh??

...also, fandom people are behaving like a bunch of trolls with 1 point of IQ per whole mob and really bad personal hygiene -- flooding LJ official blogs with random shit, trolling LJs of employers, comparing the deletion to events like Holocaust or slavery, crying opression, citing the 'First they came for...' thingy and otherwise demonstrating the LJ business runners that fandom is so stupid and dismissable that it's not even worth it to waste time and to give explanations, clarifications or more precise terms of service or whatnot.

All in all, I blame Harry bloody Potter. With all that hype it'still getting among the masses no wonder someone got offended. Although I don't exclude the act of revenge from some bitter envious bastard - that fandom is crazy beyond words.
Did you know that there's a LJ button somewhere that lets you easily and simply rat out on fellow LJ-user?

Oh, and the second has irked women especially because it's not as if underaged-looking girls don't get drawn in fanart all the time. And for the strikethrough, seems lot of fanfic communities were hit, even moreso than the porn communities or actress fetish comms so they were angling more at rape fics than rape as a topic. Another friend posted a link to an essay on it so that's where I got that.
