Sparce and utterly beautiful
rare, of pure texture,
beautiful space and line,
marble to grace
your inaccessible shrine.
*sigh*

I confess to liking leaner poems better than fatter ones. (You're not going to see a lot of Romantics in here.) I always think of "eating" poems, the way the syllables feel in my mouth when I say them. This one is slightly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside.

I see what you mean, because most of the time I like poems the leaner the better, too. Still, I have the odd liking for a Schiller,a Goethe,ONE Wordsworth(for sentimental reasons)and A LOT of Shakespeare, none of them Romantics but nevertheless quite "wordy"

I must confess to having now sat here for 10 minutes, rereading this - and I still have absolutely no idea what it's about. I am, as it were, completely dished. Gorgeous, but befuddling. These words are going to hang around my head all day, I think, until I can wring from them sense, or some feeling other than a vague impression of impotence. :-)

I know exactly how you feel. :-D Sometimes you just have to leave them alone for a while.

Hey, you made me make a Portishead icon. You were listening to them one night not too long ago, so I had the words rattling in my brain. Dern you to heck. ;-)

You'll laugh, probably, but out of the whole thing... what really grabbed me, was this:

"older than a rose;"
