YOU LOGICS BREAK MAH BRAIN-THING
So, I was going through my Google Reader and came upon this post from Shakesville that boggles over some nutjob right-wing article saying that marriage between gay people will fail for a these reasons:
1. Teh Gays marry for ~lurve~, not to protect the wimmins from RAPE and DISHONOR and DEFLOWERING.
2. Teh Gays do not have to answer to the "Bonds of Kinship" that come with Straight Marriage. Also, INCEST WILL RUN RAMPANT IN THE STREETS! SONS WILL HAVE BUTTSEX WITH THEIR FATHERS!MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS IN THE STREETS NEKKID! JEW WILL MARRY GENTILE! IRISH AND ITALIANS LIVING TOGETHER!
3. Teh Gays have no system of social disapproval of sex in their little Gay Society, so anything that's not PIV sexual intercourse (probably missionary position!) is no longer WRONG and ILLICIT. We can't call children born to two same-sex parents "bastards" OH NOES. Also, there is no force in Gay Society to form long-term, lasting relationships because all they have is "illicit" sex merrily all day long. Also, Teh Gays mock saving yourself for marriage.
4. Teh Gays do not have to deal with their partners' families when they enter into relationships. No in-laws! No angry siblings or parents disapproving your choice of partner! Marriage will no longer be an "initiation rite" wherein you become an adult by the grace of the ring on your finger because Teh Gays, on average, marry (where it's legal) 13 years past when their straight counterparts do.
Ignoring the completely miogynicstic tone of Douchey McDoucherson ("There is no doubt that women and children have suffered throughout human history from being over-protected and controlled. The consequences of under-protection and indifference will be immeasurably worse. In a world without kinship, women will lose their hard-earned status as sexual beings with personal autonomy and physical security. Children will lose their status as nonsexual beings."), his logic is broken. Has he ever taken the time to objectively look at a long-term same-sex relationship? Does he know that same-sex couples really do have a network of family and friends who insert themselves into the relationship just like the family and friends of straight couples? That "Gay Society" shames their sluts just like Teh Heteros do?
Even though Nutjob McDochepants has been married thrice, THRICE, he still defends the so-called sanctity of hetero marriage-- we has to protect the wimmins! giving you this will lead to incest, polyamory/plural marriage, children having sex in the streets!-- but does not mention any statistics of hetero vs. homo divorce rates, divorce rates among couples who marry early (and thus complete their initiation into adulthood!), etc. Nor is there any mention of people who choose to enter into marriage with no intention of childbearing, or people who don't want to marry at all. It is our duty, my straight female friends, to trap dudebros into marriage, make them into Men, pop out kidlets, and conspire with our mother-in-law on how best to control our husbands!
