I've been doing some thinking about what I want to do with my life.  It's pretty horrifying, but also really exciting.  Mostly horrifying though.  I've been asking people what they think and they usually tell me to do whatever they're doing or whatever they wish they had done.  After looking for a while at the US Department of Labor's Occupation Read more... )

Don't listen to what anyone at your own peer level and maturity says, especially if they're phrasing it as how they 'picture you.' Because picturing you has nothing to do with it. These are decisions you have to make for yourself ( ... )

And with the doing things in the world part, I mean doing things related to potential fields of study, or doing activities that will help your soul and help the world. And this is an excuse to travel too if you want to travel. There's volunteer work everywhere and you can be helping people and meeting people and doing whatever - building, farming, fruit picking, picketing, laundry, teaching English, etc. You don't need a lot of money if you do your research on the right opportunities. And with things related to different fields of study, well there's internships and apprenticeships that are unofficial or official, that are paid or unpaid, that are home or abroad, and they are in every possible field of study and expertise known to man. You could probably even mix the two with WWOOF, which btw doesn't necessarily mean farming - there's a million different activities a WWOOF volunteer could be busy doing. But you could find WWOOF hosts that are families with nurses in them or librarians, or permaculturists who started in geology, ( ... )
