prostate cancer

May 07, 2010 21:33

My dad called today. Said he has prostate cancer. I am asking for a second opinion. He said they found 2% cancer cells in 1 of the 12 samples from the biopsy.

I'm suddenly trying to learn a lot about treatments and effectiveness and indicators for watchful waiting.

it's a very odd feeling. thank you. I have no idea what a 2% cancer cell means or why that is so bad they want him to have surgery in a month. still researching.

My father recently had surgery for his prostrate cancer, it was very successful. I'll be thinking of you and your family and hoping for the best.

It seems like a fairly common surgery. But then I read the side effects and question why any operations on our bodies would be common or routine.

I'm going to get him to come for a second opinion at Duke. Fuck the small town shtick, we've got one of the best cancer treatment centers in the nation.
