Just out of curiosity, why don't you folks rent a truck or one of those Portable On Demand Storage units? Then your nicer things won't be exposed to the elements and you can take a little more time to relocate.

that's basically what we're going to have to do. the down side is this means that Jason and whoever is helping him at the time is going to still have to manhandle the couch and the entertainment center, sideboard, and heavy appliances down a flight of turning stairs, and into the truck. I had intended to be painting and may have to put it on hold so that I can help move things, which then makes painting harder to do, what with boxes and bits of furniture in the way

also, it was crass of him to ask whether or not a suitable alternative to hiring movers was moving it all in the back of his brothers truck and in his dads van.
