If you're still in band at North, you might not believe me, but someday you will grow up and leave the band, and you will realize that some of things Mr. Moore said aren't so crazy after all

I don't know if this is at all encouraging, but even if you don't make it, I will still be so proud of you. You are an excellent performer and you always put everything into every single performance.
This summer when you had your magical solo, Mark and Laura and I could not stop cheering. You were gorgeous then, and I have full confidence that you have surpassed this crazy-high standard by a mile. (Or ten.)
I really think you completely deserve to make any really amazing drum corps, because you are just that fantastic. And more than that -- you're always so ready to get better, even if that means a lot of hard work.
And maybe hard work means less sleep, but it also means no regrets. And a lot of beautiful things. So no matter what happens, I'll be rooting for you, lady. ♥
Man, call me crazy, but I completely agree with you about Mr. Moore. I really was not happy with a lot of the instruction he gave in high school, but looking back on all of it, he really had some good advice.
That, and Naperville North's music program was really effing sweet.
I'm so glad you came before me. I get to learn from all of your lessons as well as my own. I'm thinking about it this way. I worked my ass off to get into the master class at BOA. Things panned out. If they hadn't, I know I still would have had an amazing time that week. I'm working my ass off to get into a really great drum corps. It may not be enough... this year. But hey, at least I can say I was brave enough to try.
I think the thing that's more frustrating than realizing that what Mr. Moore was saying made sense after you get to college, is being the only one realizing how important it is while you're still in the band.
