Mmmm, tell ya what. I did a road trip like that once and it ended up being a pretty bad time. Mostly 'cuz my swine of a sister kept bugging me. Thats the way it goes though. I hope your trip ends up being quite a bit more fun for you. Enjoy the sights and take in everything. You might not be able to see them again in your life, ya?
