A question that I ask everyone who reads this to answer (a single word will suffice, but longer answers with reasoning are preferred):

What can change the nature of a man?

if it is possible for a person's nature to be changed... my answer to your question is war and love; for those two struggles bring out the best and worst in our species.

anything. that may seem like a cop-out response, but i think it's true, especially because everyone reacts differently to occurrences, relationships, chemicals, what-have-you.

of course, i'm probably misunderstanding your question ^^;;

It depends on the individual in general situations but I believe when a person comes into hard times they can truly change their nature at least to cope with the hardship.

For example: a rich man who has everything becomes poor and has nothing, his nature and way of being can change to cope with poverty or when a group of people are stranded at sea, their personalities and desires will change to one goal: survival.

Control.

If you read the Republic, one of the central points Plato makes is that it's possible to educate people to believe in any society you choose. However, you must control what they hear and see in order to control what they believe. So yeah, that's the most permanent and easy way to change the nature of a person. Everything else is temporary or a bit random at best.
