At the age I was when Dunblane and Columbine happened, they were distant events that took years to sink an impression into my worldview. My first thoughts when I heard the radio this afternoon were that it couldn't possible have happened in one day, but it did, and already has its own wikipedia entry

It seems like it can happen in any developed country; the first comparable killing over several rural villages I thought of was the Uireyeong massacre in Korea. There are fewer guns in England than America, but there's still plenty of violent or unhappy people.
