Dragon*Con Photo Ops

Jul 29, 2007 17:31

Yesterday at Comic Con, we just happened to walk by a booth that was advertising photo ops and autographs with Kristen Bell, Levar Burton, and others. Since I missed KB at Wizard World, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a photo with KB.  The photographer hired by FX Shows (the booth's company), was Froggy, which some of you might know from ( Read more... )

Uh oh...that doesn't sound good. My photo with James from 2003 was great and I really don't want to pay a ton of money for a blurry pic. And do we have to purchase them ahead of time? Eek...

I'm not keen on paying a ton of money for a blurry pic, either. I'm assuming that you'll be able to buy them on-site, too, but I don't know. :o\

If he's shooting in jpg (which I assume he is), he shouldn't have to do any post-processing for sharpening or color if he's set the camera settings correctly. Hrm.

Sorry about your purse. ::hugs::

Yes and no. JPG is the best option considering the conditions, and yes, things like white balance and such should be properly set for the lighting conditions, but sharpening is always a must. Digital files need to be sharpened no matter what, even if the sharpening is infinitesimal, it's necessary. And honestly, it's not like he has to sit there and sharpen each and every one. If his photo-taking is consistent, then he'd just have to batch process the photos, cutting down on the workflow, yet keeping an eye for any that might need some extra work...

Thanks. *hugs*

Yes, but what I'm saying is that the camera can do that sharpening if the person sets it that way. If Froggy is not planning on doing post-processing because he has no time to do it, then he should set the camera to sharpen and correct the white balance. Most cameras have settings that allow a user to print sharp piccies right from the camera, with no post-processing. Pros don't usually use those settings because they want to do the processing themselves on their puters.

But anyway. Glad you had a good time, except for the purse thing. :)

Chris is the best con photographer ever! He took at least a dozen photos of me at last year's Star Trek Con in Vegas and they were all good.

Craig usually did good photos. I thing I got a bad one only once.

Even if the photo is bad, there is still the James hugging time. LOL. Something to look forward to.

Agreed that Chris holds the throne where con photography is concerned. Craig was pretty good, too.

The James hugging, or any other face time with an adored actor, is great! But I'm also a customer. If I'm paying for a professional service, then I expect professional-quality results. I'm paying way too much good money to end up with a blurry, badly-composed, or off-color photograph. Maybe my expectations on customer service/satisfaction are rather high, but I don't think I should lower my standards because it's James or any other actor I admire. :o)

Amen sister! I agree 100%. We are paying a lot of money and we should expect good quality.

Hmm..I wasn't happy with my Booster Bash photos either. But, and I know I am partial since I am a good friend of Froggy's, the photos he took at FX Show 2007 (password: janetreno) turned out GREAT. So I think he's doing a lot better. Hope it all works out for you.

I do agree that Froggy has improved since Booster Bash. I bought my KB photo op because of the samples I saw on the table, which looked remarkably better than those taken at BB. I know they were rushing at Comic Con, but considering I didn't even go pick up my photo until the day after I took it, I would have much appreciated even a little post-processing.

I really hope things work out better at Dragon*Con, where the volume of photos and such will be much higher. I'm still not sure if I'll actually buy any photo ops, though.

Let's cross our fingers....It's a noticeable bit of money for a bad photo, so I hope that person focuses on putting out a good product.

You lost your purse? Was it stolen, or did it eventually turn up? That's such a traumatic thing....we women carry our lives in our purses, often times, and it's such a hassle to cancel all the cards and get new IDs. *hugs*

Was Kristin Bell as lovely in person as she seems? She always has the nicest smile.

I hope so, too. I'm not a trained professional, but if even I can notice that there could be some improvement in the process, then I hope that Froggy, the hired professional, will do so too. Furthemore, I hope he will take the necessary steps to make sure that his product is of the highest possible quality.

Yeah, I lost my purse. I forgot it in the ballroom where Joss' panel was held, and when I returned a few minutes later, it was no longer there. I'm still hoping it's just lost somewhere among all the other lost & found items, but I'm not holding my breath, either. *hugs*

KB was absolutely lovely! I really wish I'd had more time to talk to her or something, but it was still nice to meet her! She really does have a lovely smile. :o)
