Looking for Hostees

Nov 01, 2007 14:29

I recently upgraded my webhosting account and now have an astronomical amount of webspace and bandwidth and I want to share it. I'm looking for either fansites, blogs, or original photography sites. Vids (avi, wmv, etc) & mp3's (or other music files) downloading is not allowed; illegal, hateful, or otherwise unsuitable content is prohibited ( Read more... )

Are you reading my mind? angstchic suggested I talk to you about hosting BSCentral. We'd have to started over again, so I'm not sure how much space we'd need. But I'd love to discuss it with you.

I'd absolutely love to host BSCentral! I know you guys have been having trouble, but anyway I can help, I'd certainly be up for it. Email me with what you'd need/are looking for. ghostgirl13 @ sbcglobal.net :o)

Thank you. I'm in the planning stages. I've got to contact my authors and see if they want to return. As far as knowing what I'll need, I have not a clue. Isabelle set up the archive. I'm going to have to ask for help.

Thanks again! So excited.

No problem. I'm very familiar with eFiction, so I roughly know what you would need to set it up. Installing it is easy. To transfer over any of your current data, all Isabelle would need to do is backup your database and any/all your data files and send it to me so I can sift through it and get the archive up and going. Granted, all of this depends on the status of your files. If the text of the stories are completely missing, then you will have to rebuild the archive from scratch. :o\

I was looking at web hosts just the other day. Also I think Go Daddy maybe a big contender as I was wrong, they didn't say no to adult content. Yay! Have you had problems with them and that was the reason for the switch to Site5?

Anyway, with all the info about what comes with each host I'm a bit clueless about how much space I actually need. I remember talking to you about hosting vidding sites and their special needs. Would you happen to know how much a website with mostly text and regular site graphics but with the most space being taken up by vids at 50 MBs at the highest, more usually at 20MBs be? Right now I just have the two, but I figure if I keep at this I'll want room for 20 vids and then if need be expand from that.

Of course I realize this is totally a tangent off your post but hey, I figure you're the person I know the best who knows this stuff.

Thanks for any help!

The only business I've done with GoDaddy is purchasing my domains through them. I've never had them as a webhost, so I couldn't tell you whether they are good or not.

You know, I may have some links that could be useful in your research as far as finding what you need. They're at home and I'm at work, so I'll have to get back to you on this. I'll try and see if there's anything else I can dig up for you. Just a rough estimate, though... You'd need a site with at least 1.5-2GB of webspace and maybe around 2GB of bandwidth, especially if your vids are popular. The more bandwidth the better, in your case, because vids eat that stuff up like crazy.

Yeah, I had one vidder tell me I'd need 10GBs but that seemed very high. I'd love those links. Thanks!

Oh, and if you didn't use GoDaddy who did you use previous to Site5?
