Silence for a while, and then a sigh.

"If I thought you had become an angel, I would have already killed you."

A longer pause.

"Don't misunderstand me again."

Have a return message, shortly after the message is left.

And the tone is pretty... businesslike, or an attempt at such. Though since you've grown up with him (or a him), it's easy enough to tell that he's straining himself to remain calm.

"How am I supposed to understand you if you never tell me anything? And I haven't sold myself to Him."

A pause.

"If I ran, the Bels would have chased me until they caught me. You wouldn't tell me anything. I couldn't figure out what Gin was up to. Atsuro didn't have enough time to finish his plan. Amane was the only option I had left."

Another pause.

"Tell me, brother. What was I supposed to do?"

Aaaand he hangs up.

They'll be at this all day.

"...What you should be asking is what you're going to do now. Unless you intend to follow through with their plan to have you kill me?"

Why does he sound like he'd be perfectly fine with you killing him aaaaaaaaaa

Probably.

"Really? I thought I'd imitate you there - always so focused on the past."

... He did not just.

"And I don't want to kill you, no. I do care about you, even when you're acting like this."

Silence for a few long moments.

"Do you know what defying an order from a superior angel feels like, Naoya? It feels like being burned alive from the inside. Constantly. With no relief until you follow the order. I'd do that, for you."

Aaand back to the business-like tone again.

"But just know what you're asking of me."
